Just to avoid any confusion, I have changed my user name and made some other adjustments to my details. The Mortgage Adviser is going to sleep and my new name will be TMA.

Sorry if this causes any inconvenience.

I am still the same monster… I just don’t do loans anymore!

I am still providing information through posts, email and the website (www.themortgageadviser.com.au) though. I am just trying to avoid all live people contact in the future and thought the name change would reduce requests to do loans.

    I don’t know… maybe declare bankruptcy!!!

Seriously though, I am looking for a career position in something interesting but I am being fussy. It has to be within a large company so I have options. Considering travel industry at the moment because I can’t get into the banks as they say I am “too qualified” (rubbish) for entry-level stuff and I keep refusing positions in mortgage lending dealing with the public which they keep offering me. I have screwed myself with my level of education and knowledge in this area.

Playing around with a lot of online stuff at the same time and this will continue if I ever find a suitable company that wants my services. I am just totally sick of being self-employed and need the team environment.

    Who knows really… any suggestions???

    Hi Rob,
Former travel agent here. What area of the travel industry are you looking at getting into? I had about 10 years in the travel industry and have recently got back into building houses (carpenter by trade)as it was paying better and complimented our property investing goals.
    Regards,
    Pete

    Hi Pete,

I don’t know that much about it to really know which area I want to be in. Like anything new, I like to start at the bottom and look at all areas. I was thinking retail domestic and international travel to start with. Hopefully I will learn different areas from there.

    TMA,

Good luck. It’s great fun. Can be very stressful, however I’m sure it’s nothing you can’t cope with.

Friends tell me it is a fun field to work in. You don’t have everyone lying to you all the time as there is no reason to and they are usually happy to be going on holiday. I am also told it can be stressful if things go wrong regarding a booking or trip but this will be dealt with as it comes. I still have to get a run first as I have no training. Flight Centre would be nice!

Flight Centre are a very dynamic & fun company to work for. That is where I got my foot in the door in travel. I had 3.5 years with them with the last year as manager of an office. Check their website as I think it might give you an idea of what they are looking for. I finished with them in 1998, things might have changed a bit since then, but back then they preferred people who had done a bit of travelling. Sales ability is very important & a degree (which I didn’t have) was another bonus. They are constantly looking for new staff as the turnover rate is quite high and the best part is that they don’t need you to have any formal travel qualifications as they do all training inhouse. A lot of other agency chains require you to have the qualifications before they will give you a job.

As I say it was 1998 when I finished with them and things might have changed, however I think they are a great company to start with.

Their profile looks fantastic. I have looked at them very closely and they offer great support. I have done a bit of travelling to London, Paris, Marseille, Amsterdam, Bali and extensively around Australia so I have that covered. Also have two passports.. Aus. and Euro. A big bonus.

The problem is they do not respond very quickly to online applications. It has been a week with nothing heard. Very annoying!

I will be looking to other companies starting Monday but I prefer the bigger companies as they offer many more options for growth.
