i bought a property off the plan last year and was supposed to pay stamp duty within 12 months…i totally forgot about it and discovered it only yesterday..so i should have paid actually 2 months back..i called my solicitor he was surprised that i did not pay the stamp duty and i was all this time under the impression that he would he sending me a letter to remind me of it close to the time but that did not happen…

Now i have to pay a fine..does anyone know what is the stamp duty fine structure in ACT ?

Also in your cases does this happen..i mean the solicitors sending letters to remind the client of stamp duty payable closer to the date ?

Don’t worry too much. The fine will probably be only small – about 12% pa of the outstanding amount.
