All Topics / Help Needed! / Council Approval For Extensions
Hi,
I’m looking at purchasing 3 single bedroom units and the real estate agent assures me that there is council approval for extensions if I wanted to add another 1 or 2 units.
I was thinking of bringing in a demountable cabin and turning that into a single room dwelling. Does this sound feasable, or are there things that I should watch out for and be cautious of. Is it as straight forward as purchasing a demountable and relocating it or are there hidden areas I need to be aware of?
Thanks,
Ian
Hi Ambo,
When you say the agent has “Assured” you there is council approval for extensions, haven’t they showed you the planning and/or building approvals?I would think they would be an important part of the marketing campaign. You don’t want to go in to a deal on the basis of extending, and find out it is not possible.
Tools
Hi Ambo,
What tools says is right.
Does the agent have a set of plans that are “stamped” by council and thereby approved?
Or is the agent just confident that you would be able to extend if you wanted to? (Sounds most likely)
Check with the local council concerned, they are usually very helpful and can offer a lot of information on what you are likely to be able to do with the property.
Good luck,

Thanks for your replies everyone.
The agent said that she has seen the plans but I haven’t specifically asked to have a look yet. Guess I had better requeast this before I go any further.
Thanks again,
Ian
