A bit of background first.. I have been based overseas in Indonesia for the past 13 years with my wife and children. We have started in property investing with 3 properties, however as we come back only once every 2-3 years to Oz we have pursued very safe deals, where tennancy is quite assured and have not made as much money if we were involved directly, and not quite positive cashflow. However still not too bad, in our work with a minimal income (20k pa for the family excluding property) with a non-profit organisation, we have been able to build equity of 180k.

Now to the question… with a foreign base, and difficulty borrowing due to our income, would it be best to find someone in Australia to partner with?

I know there has been other stuff on trusts on the site, however in a partnership is it best to have things in a separate entity like a trust?

What would be better, a friend in partnership who has little understanding but happy to learn, or is it possible to partner with someone who is refered by someone else who I don’t know well who knows what they are doing?

By the way, some people have questioned the legality of “birddogs” (I think thats the term, a lot of terms are new to me). In Indonesia there are basically no official agents, and 210million bird dogs ready to sell a deal. A short while ago someone tried to sell 3 bedroom townhouses for $20,000- each!!!
