    Hi all,
I’m not sure if this is the right forum in which to ask this question, but if not please feel free to redirect me elsewhere.
What is the best credit card to have?
Several friends have acquired enough points to take their family to Europe for a holiday (with either ANZ or CBA.) I have a NAB Mastercard. I’ve never been able to do any thing like that. The most “exciting” thing that my Flybuys program offers me is a new toaster, or similar, about every three years. I’m obviously doing something wrong!
If you’re “racking” up lots of points please enlighten me as to how you’ve done it. All comments welcome. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi there Marney. If you pick up any Money magazine, it will have a table at the back listing the best cards to have.

I personally have a Woolworths Mastercard, and have racked up a lot of points just by using it normally. That’s not to say you should have one just for the points though.

    Cheers

    Hi Marney,

dont know many other credit cards, but CBA one is great, really because they give you further discount’s on your variable and fixed loans, but there point system is great too, but depends on which credit card you get from them.

    Cheers,
    sis

Do you know what month Money Magazine publishes their “Best of ….for the year?” (Redwing?)

Has any one ever been able to use their credit card to make payments on their mortgage? That would be a sure fire way to build up points very quickly!

Pay mortgage with credit card? Oohh could see some people getting in trouble there without some hard rules for doing so. I like the idea though, although I reckon the banks and reward programs would have something to say about it.

Imagine how many people could start flying for free.

Thanks, Myydral. That site is great. Will keep me busy for a while doing a few comparisons.

    Marney..

do a search for the magazineon the net..

as for paying your mortgage with CC, i’m sure the`bank’ would take that as a cash advance, hitting you with interest.. if you then repaid it the same day by putting cash into your account that day…dunno?

I can remember a car dealership talking about buying your car with CC (maybe Diners..’m unsure)thenpaying offifyou had the cash,
and getting enough points to go on holidays to USA

Rugbyfan had a good thread on this topic months ago…do a search..

    Hi Marney,

I have given up on the CBA and now also ANZ (as soon as they placed a cap on the number of points you could earn). I now have a card with Westpac and regularly cash in my points for Coles Myer vouchers. The odd voucher here or there keeps me happy. They also have a program where you can save your points up and use them to book flights through their own travel agency. You can book any flight that is available, rather than just designated ‘award seats’. Have a look at their altitude rewards program.

    Cheers,

    Ali G

PS. Great post Yorker! Although I guess if you pay it off in full each month and the rewards outweigh the annual fee, they do have their advantages. [biggrin]

I recently did some research on the best card which suits me – top rewards system and always pay off everything on time. Found that Citibank was the best, closely followed by Westpac Altitude. I use Altitude which isn’t too far behind Citibank so I decided to stick with them.
