Does anyone know much about this area i believe it is 23km east of melbourne and quite nice.
Anyone have any stats. Is it worthwhile looking in this area.

Yes Wantirna is exactly 23k east of Melbourne, a nice suburb (not sure of size) and the price of rental yields there are reasonable; ranging from 220 p/w up.
I’d recommend http://www.property.com.au and check out the suburb snapshot that used to provide very detailed stats and info, but apparently this is no longer available since http://www.realestate.com.au took them over and got rid of this function. But you could try http://www.domain.com.au; last time I looked they still offered a free suburb snapshot. Otherwise you may just have to do a general search on the net for more info.

i reckon wantirna is great value for money if you wanna ppor. it has lagged in growth behind the surrounding suburbs that have the older cutsie cottage/renovated places – like mitcham, nunawading etc but if you want a 1970’s brick vaneer, 3 bedroon, ensuit, mayeb even a swimming pool then its great value.
the big problem is that access to public transport is pretty crappy. the mitcham-frankston freeway due to open in 3-5 years will be a big plus though and you shld be able to drive to the cbd in 30 mins….

Wantirna, Rowville, etc has the worst public transport in Melbourne, with large areas lacking service much after 7pm or on Sundays- see http://www.alphalink.com.au/~parkerp/melsubu.htm
The area is in Fare Zone 3 and the freeway will be tolled, so together with registration for two or three cars, your transport costs will be higher there than almost anywhere else.

I thought I would look up the area where I am renting here in sunny Carlton and found that we are paying more per year in rent than it is even worth! Is this a 100% yield? [lmao]

If you are referring to rpdata.com suburb stats, please don’t take their figures, or any data for that matter as gospel; there are just too many variables involved data analysis, and these reports IMO are only a guide.
Furthermore, if you are referring to sunny carlton (as here in Victoria) which judging by your profile, is the state in which you reside, I find this $26,137 as the median sales price EXTREMELY low….sale of what, a row boat???!!!!” Even a one bedder costs at least 150K in Carlton!!!
For a clearer picture, try http://www.realestate.com.au and go to Sold properties, and take a peek at what properties in the Carlton area sold for recently (opt for latest listing).
Chin up; I am sure that the cooling market hasn’t cooled to FROZEN SOLID level, not just yet!!!! [lmao]
JoI work in the city and need to go to Watirna sometimes. Even in off peak traffic it takes a taxi almost an hour to get there. Newish area to live in and okay if you work in the neighbourhood, but it seems so remote from anywhere else in Melbourne. As mentioned earlier the public transport is shockingly inadequate.

23km is not a long way even for Adelaide standards.

alfWe moved from Wantirna late last year because of all the problems discussed. Also there is a lot of hoons who like to use the local streets as their private Calder race way. Knox Ozone has a gang problem which is evident if you are there later on a Friday or Saturday night.
