How many properties do you own in Kalgoorie?

    Are you an investor?

    How long you been investing?

    Retired yet?

Are you a salesperson or a contributor to this forum?

Kalgoorlie is a typical example of the dangers of investing in country locations. There seems to have been more booms and busts up there than I have had hot dinners. There was the late 80’s when you couldn’t give the property away and some clever speculators bought the whole town between them, then there was the 90s when times were good again. I lost track for a while there but a mate thought he would give it a shot in about 96 and ended selling in the late 90s with no loss or gain just a lot of wasted of time. Now the CF+ boom is pushing prices up again. When I use to live there they were trying to get the town to a critical mass so that it wasn’t resources dependant any more, like it becomes a transport hub or something – whether that day ever arrives is anyones guess? Anyone got some thoughts on Kal?

I agree AusProp. I think this last property boom has been a blessing for the small towner wanting to get out, especially with all the +ve cashflow people running in to snap up the bargains.

    <<<<…..snap up the bargains.>>>>>

They wont be bargains in the long term.

In 5 yrs time, people will be trying to offload their rural properties because they realise they aint getting any growth, their not ve+ when rates rise and repairs eat into rents and the hassle of managing a property is not worth the effort.

And thats without worrying about the resources boom and busts.

Yaeh, I’m a bit unsure about Kalgoorlie at the moment.

My Mum keeps cutting out and sending me newspaper clippings about the latest boom. I was keen at first but after doing some research, I am a bit more sceptical.

Look, I may be wrong, but I am not prepared to chance it in Kalgoorlie.

My biggest problem is trying to deal with agents there. They either had too big a night and couldnt be bothered getting back to me or the one I heard yesterday was ‘She has 6 kids and it is the school holidays you know’.
My faith in agents dwindles with each day.

    No it wasn,t Yack.
Maybe I should give her a call.
She seems more motivated than the rest of them.
