Hi Arty,
I think doing a R,EsTate course is a very good idea if you want to widen your knowledge in the world of property investing.
I did the Real Estate Agents Representative course a while back for this very same reason,
I did the course off campus through TAFE,The cost was about $350.00,
A cheaper alternative may be reading one of Neil Jennmans books, The book i read(real estate mistakes) I think thats the title, gave some invaluble insights in regards to real estate practices,
Armed with this knowledge can come in very handy when buying or selling, []

Comments may not be relevant to individual circumstances. If you intend making any investment, financial or taxation decision you should consult a professional adviser.
What you really want is the full licence. Then you can open your own agency. To get this you must do the full course which is 4 years with TAFE (part time) or 7-12 weeks with a private fee paying institute (cost about $4000 to $5000). I think you also need 2 years experience working in the industry too (NSW the rules changed recetnly).
If Agents need a full licence to operate an office. Why wouldnt Property Investors need one too ? Investors would buy/sell property, lease to tenants, do lease options/wraps, etc.
What additional powers would a fully licenced Agent be able to do ?

“…Would this add value to the knowledge needed to make property investing, leasing, etc more productive ?”
Excellent question Arty
I’m re-reading Rich Dad at the moment and Robert says “it is not gambling if you know what you’re doing. It is gambling if you’re just throwing money into a deal and praying. The idea in anything is to use your technical knowledge, wisdom and love of the game to cut the odds down to lower the risk. Of course, there is always a risk. It is financial intelligence that improves the odds. Thus, what is risky for one person is less risky to someone else. That is the primary reason I constantly encourage people to invest more in their financial education than in the stock, real estate or other markets. The smarter you are, the better chance you have of beating the odds.”
I have a favourite saying I use in training all the time: “what you don’t know you don’t go looking for” oh and another favourite… “if you need to visit the rest rooms, please make sure you come back” – I’ve got to get out more []
Even its not the full licence, It would be good to know the steps from start to finish, and what legal documents are required for a property transaction…
