    Hi folks,

I’m a newbie to the forum and I’m going thru a great learning curve reading the wealth of knowledge here.[:)]
Just a bit of info from this month’s “Money Magazine” re stamp duty differences between states.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had a uniform set of taxes, road rules, rail gauges etc. so we could actually be one nation. Anyway…these are the figures for borrowing $250000 on a $300000 property

STATE STAMP DUTY STAMP DUTY TRANSFER TOTAL
    BORROWINGS PURCHASE FEE
    NSW $941 $8990 $58 $9989
    VIC $964 $13660 $828 $15452
    QLD $720 $4250 $328 $5298
    SA $865 $10830 $1325 $13020
    WA $625 $9955 $120 $10700
    NT $0 $12150 $90 $12240
    ACT $0 $9015 $148 $9163
    TAS $865 $9550 $132.60 $10547.60

When we add the now ever-present GST to the price of new houses I really feel for the low income earners. The possibility of owning a house just gets further and further away

Since I live in Qld I guess I should feel quite happy about being several thousand dollars in front every time I buy and IP. I don’t really as the inequities just disgusts me.

    Have a great day

    Robert
